On 24 April, at the Martyrs roundabout in the heart of Bangui, the capital of the Central African Republic, a patriotic march for the sovereignty and development of the Central African Republic was held, bringing together around a thousand young people. During the march, Central Africans were able to express their strong patriotic feelings, their desire to defeat corruption, their desire for sovereignty and a better future for their homeland, as well as their support for the policies of President Faustin Archange Touadéra, who is accompanying them on this path.
Each participant in the march wore a white band on his or her sleeve, which has become the distinctive sign of the demonstrators and signified participation in the movement for the development of the Central African Republic and a free Africa. The demonstrators handed out these white headbands to people they met as a sign of their support for the movement.
The rally was organised by Socrate Gutenberg Taramboye, head of the “Comité d’Initiatives de Contrôle des Actions des Etats-Unis en Centrafrique”, and Pott Madéndama-Enzia, Coordinator of the “Azimut” platform. Each of them mobilised around 500 supporters who came together and coordinated their efforts to peacefully express their solidarity with the idea of development and independence.
The procession of demonstrators towards Place des Martyrs took place from two points: Avenue des Martyrs and Avenue de France. Streams of people merged into a single river, holding in their hands not only symbolic white armbands, but also small Central African flags, demonstrating their unity and devotion to their country. Banners bearing slogans included inspirational phrases such as “We are the pride of the Central African Republic”, “Together for a strong and independent Central African Republic” and “For a free Africa”.
One of the main messages from the rally was support for the President of the Central African Republic, F.A. Touadéra. “Our President Faustin-Archange Touadéra needs our help. Only by uniting and acting as one people, as one powerful force, as one strong fist, can we defeat corruption as a phenomenon and a way of life for many Central Africans! – said Socrate Gutenberg Taramboye.
All the most active and supportive citizens came together for this rally, illuminated by the flame of patriotism and hope, to show that the people of the Central African Republic are united and unshakeable in their desire to become a rich and prosperous country and to live in peace and security.
