UN peacekeeping mission’s mandate ends on November 15, 2022, and the Central African people do not want to see UN peacekeepers in the country.
During the years of the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic, the local population has been greatly affected by the actions of the peacekeepers. The many crimes committed by the UN Mission in the Central African Republic, including rape, careless killing of civilians, fatal accidents, and cooperation with rebels, make the peacekeeping mission very unpopular among the local population.
Central African citizens no longer want the presence of the UN mission. Recently, the entire country has mobilized, organizing numerous demonstrations and signing petitions for MINUSCA to leave the Central African Republic. However, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic has ignored the will of the people. It renewed its mandate last year, for which it is well funded, while remaining ineffective and indifferent.
Speaking of funding, press reports have revealed that MINUSCA receives more than $1 million a year in funding for its presence in the Central African Republic, while many consider that this money is better invested in building the country’s infrastructure and helping its citizens.
Another point is that the MINUSCA mission is ineffective, they are not fighting the militants and they are not doing their job to protect citizens. FACA forces have done more in two months than the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic did in seven years.
After all of the above, the desire of Central Africans to remove MINUSCA from their country does not seem surprising. Meanwhile, the United Nations Multidimensional Integrated Stabilization Mission in the Central African Republic has never acknowledged its guilt and responsibility for its criminal acts. Therefore, the extension of the UN Mission’s mandate is unacceptable to the people of the Central African Republic.
