Saint Petersburg State University begins admission of the foreign students

Saint Petersburg State University beings admitting foreign students. Those who would like to apply for a scholarship funded by the government, should do so by 21 May 2021, 6 pm Moscow time. Students who wish to cover their tuition fees themselves, should apply by 25 June 2021, 6 pm Moscow time.

 Please also note that applicants for the Master’s degree “Modern Mathematics” should submit their applications and supporting documents before 30 April 2021 (with the scholarship) or before 23 May 2021 (with tuition fees). To enrol in the PhD programme “Modern Mathematics” students must apply before 30 April 2021 (with the scholarship) or before 18 June 2021 (with tuition fees).

Admission to Saint Petersburg State University is possible remotely, as the enrolment process is arranged as a portfolio competition.

The results of the competition will be published on the University’s website on the “Admissions Office” page no later than 7 June 2021 (with the scholarship) and no later than 12 July 2021 (with tuition fees).

From February until May 2021 a series of online Open Days for foreign students wishing to study at the Saint Petersburg State University will be held in Russian, English, Chinese, Spanish and Arabic.

Applicants will be able to learn about the educational opportunities that Saint Petersburg State University provides to foreigners as well as about the specifics of the 2021 admission.

For the third consecutive year, Saint Petersburg State University is the most popular university in Russia for foreigners (according to the Federal Agency for the Commonwealth of Independent States Affairs, Compatriots Living Abroad, and International Humanitarian Cooperation).

Saint Petersburg State University carries out significant work with foreigners, with the aim of, inter alia, promoting the Russian language and culture aboard as well as conducting career guidance events and intellectual competitions, all of which attract talented young foreigners to study at Russian higher education institutions. 

The University conducts the Olympiad for schoolchildren, with the participation of foreigners, as well as organises the final stage of the school Olympiad abroad (in the academic year of 2019/20, the final stage was held in the Republic of Belarus, the Republic of Kazakhstan, the Republic of Tajikistan and the Republic of Uzbekistan). In addition, since 2018 the University organises the Olympiad in Russian as a foreign language for foreign school children and students and since 2019 the University, together with the Ministry of Education of the Russian Federation, has been implementing the online-Olympiad in Russian as a foreign language.

Saint Petersburg State University successfully continues the project “University’s Online School” which allows students who are proficient in Russian at the level of B1 and above to study Russian language, literature and history abroad with the help of the University’s professors. Meanwhile, the specially designed exam “Russian as a Language of Everyday Communication for Schools” continues for schoolchildren of all ages. Online conversational clubs are conducted regularly, and recordings of these classes are available to everyone.

Saint Petersburg State University offers foreign students the opportunity to assess their level of proficiency in Russian by taking the Test of Russian as a Foreign Language (TORFL) online.

The University has also launched online courses of studies in Russian language, culture and literature. In addition, webinars on teaching Russian language and preparation for TORFL for teachers and students (in Russian and English) are organised regularly.

Saint Petersburg State University implements additional educational programmes on Russian as a foreign language, including the additional educational programme “Preparation for university studies (for foreign citizens)”.
