On the 21rst of December 2019, in a joint press conference in Abidjan with the French president Emmanuel Macron, Allassane Ouattara, the Ivorian president made an important announcement on the Eco, the new currency that should replace the CFA Franc in 2020. From the declaration he made, we can see that the West-African giant, Nigeria will not be among the first batch of countries to introduce the Eco. What is really going on? Why is it that Nigeria and the other Anglophone countries are not starting using the Eco in 2020? Will the Eco really be operational in the CFA zone in 2020 as stated by president Ouattara? He mentioned that France will act as a guarantor for the convertibility of the Eco with the Euro. What game Paris is trying to play with the help of Cote d’Ivoire in a monetary project that is supposed to be a 100% African owned and managed currency?
